metablogging

For my colleagues who contemplate the meaning and function and general rhetoricalness of blogs, a voice from outside academia. Alison. Bechdel, an award-winning cartoonist and creator of the bestselling graphic memoir Fun Home* (have I plugged that recently?), asks some big questions about her increasingly popular blog.

Of course, having a readership that occasionally breaks into double digits, I can't exactly relate, as some folks in first-year writing classes might say. But her conundrum suggests new manifestations of celebrity, and particularly lesbian celebrity, an accelerated and more public version of responses to May Sarton.
