(Okay, let's hope this is just one of many. And it's not without its self-serving aspects.)
I signed up for Sister Study, a long-term research project that wants to sign up 50,000 women ages 35 to 74 to try to understand how environment and genes impact breast cancer. You need to be the sister of someone who's had breast cancer, and not have had breast cancer yourself.
It's not a small commitment, which is why it's taken me til now to sign up. Participants need to stay with this for the long haul, and you have to do some long interviews and have hair and blood samples taken and stuff like that.
But isn't that a small investment to try to understand breast cancer? To support our sisters and mothers and friends and lovers who've struggled and survived?
