The Passing of a Great Woman and a Great Mind
Octavia Butler has passed. I've read very little of her work; in fact, my copy of Kindred just arrived from Amazon the other day. Yet, hearing others speak of her work, hearing her rich voice on Democracy Now, I could not help but respect and admire her.

Oddly, I just read Kindred, in a two-day flurry, a few weeks ago. I don't really like "historical" fiction and I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi, but I must admit I'm a sucker for time travel, and I couldn't put the book down. It's good. And a good mix of character, idea, and plot. Highly recommended. And very sad.
