Up way too late the last few nights--just can't get to sleep. And when there's two snorers in the same bed, it's all about who gets to sleep first. *sigh* So, I was on the couch reading a novel 'til 2am, then up at 7:30 to await the electrician, who arrived promptly at 8am to fix our kitchen light. Observations:
1. Rupert, our boy cat, is extremely annoyed at not being allowed outside today, particularly since we allowed a total stranger in the house. He hates to use the litter box and would much rather be playing wild cat of the neighborhood (he sleeps under shrubs and stalks small critters), but with the weather turning from coldy and snowy to nasty freezing rain, this is For His Own Good.
2. The electrician, though annoyingly garrulous at the crack of dawn, was the Macgyver of home repair, using the spring from a ball point pen to fix our track light.
3. Downloading Firefox was easy and makes me feel very techno-savvy.
4. If you use espresso-ground coffee in the drip coffee machine, you may experience blockage. Of the filter, that is. Tea, anyone?
5. I need to shower and feel human before diving back into chapter two.

So what's your secret? I mean, how do you get an electrician to arrive promptly to fix something? The only electrician I've ever gotten to show up on time has been my brother-in-law...
No secret, I'm afraid. In this economically depressed town, it's tough to find good contractors. We just lucked out on this one. As opposed to our experiences with the first guy who put in some drainage for us in the side yard--made him do it a second time, and it's still not right, but we're afraid to challenge him again. Or the plasterer who cussed out Ms J (aka "homeowner/payer-of-bill") for politely suggesting he might be a bit tidier on his second visit.
