I dreamt yesterday morning that I was chatting with some folks whose black miniature poodle had had a cute litter of puppies. I was apparently considering adopting one. Of course, as the sister of a poodle breeder/handler/groomer, I am aware of the various problems with non-experts breeding dogs, and this litter was clearly not show quality, and while I was tempted, I was concerned about the lack of genetic testing, pedigree (to see all the familial relations and health concerns), etc.
But I don't think this dream was about puppies. I don't want one--how would I manage? and Maddie would pack her Flexi-Lead and leave home. So what was this about? Well, on Monday I met with my dissertation chair, who pointedly reminded me to keep things in perspective. That is, not every revision has to be perfect. Hell, nothing in the thing has to be perfect!
So, there you go: I need to keep my dissertation pet quality. Not show quality. There's your metaphor for the day. Maybe I can find some others from the family treasure trove...
