Score One for Prescient Gift-Giving

I drew my sister's partner Tim in the annual family gift exchange, and sent him one of these nifty things. Useful, I thought, for those times when they're on the road to dog shows and such.

And lo, a great storm descended upon the Pacific Northwest. I called to check up on Dad and while chatting with my sister, asked, "Hey, did Tim's Christmas present arrive yet?" Why, yes, she said, and I suggested he might want to open it now. While the power was off. And might be for some time. And Tim was having a lovely time yesterday playing with his new toy.

Imagine if you could combine a psychic with a good personal shopper...now that would be a serious SuperHero!

Darn it, the link didn't work!! We wanted to order the wonderful radio for our many friends still in the dark (some 200,000 homes still without power at last count).
And here we thought the rechargable electric wine opener we bought for our friends was the gadget of the year!

Sorry about that--it was on the Barnes & Noble website, under "gifts." Realgoods.com also has similar items--they're big on getting folks off the grid--that is, people *choosing* to get off the grid, rather than being thrown off!
