The diss heads into its final phase of revision beginning Monday morning. Much will fall away, as the draft emerges like a sleek...well, that metaphor goes nowhere.
Try this one, because I so would be a clothes horse given the time and money:
The current draft is like a wonderful, well tailored suit, class yet modern, sharp yet comfortable. Unfortunately, that suit is currently being worn with a bunch of well-intended but not-so-well-made pieces--a classy but unfinished shirt, a bunch of knock-off accessories. Now, to go back and remove those accessories and set them aside for another day, when I can really do something for them. And finish sewing up that shirt.
Now, come time for the defense, that's when the shoes get added. Yeah. These boots were made for walking, baby.

Oooh! I can't WAIT to hear what you wear for the defense. And by the way, I'm staying at the Hampton Inn for MLA--a half block from the Marriott and $129 a night. Stay there, too, dear.
Oh, good--now *everyone* knows where to find us! ;)
Excellent! You have inspired me. I'm glad to hear you're on the cusp of finishing.
I am on the last chapter myself, but a little stuck, too.
WOOO!!!!! HOOOOO!!!!!! congratulations on completing this step of the journey.
