Weird dream, redux

So, I dreamed [I've resolved to stop using the word "dreamt," since I'm annoyed by words like "amongst" in others' writing] that I was preparing a conference presentation about an ear of corn. That's right: my blessed Dissertation Director and I were researching an ear of corn that had been found on campus in an old building, in a room that had supposedly been sealed for many decades. What was remarkable about this ear of corn? Something about how well preserved it was, I guess--it looked downright fresh. I was whipping together some last-minute research, when I was informed that, sadly, the ear of corn was a hoax. It hadn't been there for decades, after all.

Feel free to discuss the implications for my dissertation.

This dream sounds like a Jane Smiley novel--think of _Moo_ and the "Old Meats" building.

Finding the ancient corn is like finding the holy grail--hoax or not! So take heart. The corn is a sign of "productivity" and productive days ahead for your diss writing.

While you're deciphering this for your diss, I'm deciphering it for my book. Is this the sign I've been waiting for?????

Rather than discussing your dream, I'd like to discuss your orthographic prejudices. Lordie, lordie, I spose you're going to forbid me to use my beloved "whilst," too?
