Isn't it ironic...

No, I'm not channeling Alanis Morissette. (As comedian Sabrina Matthews points out, no, it's not ironic, Alanis, it's unfortunate.)

It's ironic that the job I end up being offered--and accept--is the one associated with the shoe snafu of mid-March. You remember--I forgot my fabulous witchiepoo black boots and ended up spending the day in a gray pants suit and brown fringy mocassins. I had several beautifully coordinated ensembles for the Indiana interview, but noooooo, I come in second place there.

So, where is this job, you ask? Well, Ms. J and I are off to the big city--or at least, nearby. We'll be residing in beautiful Jersey City, where I'll be teaching at New Jersey City University.

We'll be minutes by train from Greenwich Village, not to mention near some lovely friends. So, if we end up with no social life, we'll have no one to blame but ourselves. And that's a bit scary...

The hardest part of all: Rupert will have to become an indoor cat. This is Wild Boy, who flies back and forth across the backyard chasing leaves, and slaughtering the occasional baby bunny. (I imagine there will be a bunny party when we move.) Roopie-Poopie, who gets into fights he cannot possibly win, who wanders blocks away to sleep under neighbors' trees and nibble food a kind woman left out for a stray. Rupert, who yodels his displeasure at having to use--gasp--the litter box. Horrible.

Anyway, hooray for me! I shall be employed! I shall bring honor to the program!

Ooooh, wait--gotta finish that diss first...

Congratulations on job-ness! Or is it job-osity? In any case, congratulations all the way around. We who knew you way back when are proud of you. And you give hope to those of us who are still, as of now, yet, also, jobless.
Fight the good fight, sister!

Congrats!!

Ya know, it could've been the mocs that sealed the deal . . .

MLA is, after all, full of black shoes (but how many mocs?!). The lesson: dare to be different.

This is excellent, excellent news. Sandra lives in Plainfield, and the commute into the city is so easy that I've had go surrender my derision of NJ. PLUS, as Sandra has demonstrated to me, NJ itself has a lot of appeal, and the derision is in many ways just unwarranted. On Sunday I'm taking the train down to Sandra's and then commuting into the city on Mon & Tue. We'll have to figure out how far Jersey City is from Plainfield!
