Yeah, but was she a lesbian?

Susie Bright's August 11 post gave me pause. As someone who researches dead folks--like the glorious Adah Isaacs Menken--and wonders just how queer they were, it would be nice if said dead folks had written down somewhere where and with whom and how they had sex. They could lock it in a vault with a special mechanism that opens it on some future date, but still. The question with Menken, who wrote some lovely poems and letters suggesting a fondness for a few different women, remains: did the actress and writer known as The Naked Lady every get naked with other ladies? Inquiring minds want to know.

So, in honor of Barbara Grier and Lillian Faderman and all those other women I admire: Yes. I have had sex with women. I liked it. A lot. And I'll do it again.

History has been served.

Um...I'm glad you have your computer set up to find references to sex, but honestly, do you really think I'm going to share the nitty gritty with total strangers? On the other hand, I'm glad to hear that future generations will have no doubt about your sexual predilections.
